Is Your Membership Site Ready to Go Live? The Checklist

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

In the process of getting your membership site ready to launch, there are a lot of things that you are going to be checking and rechecking before you actually launch. This will range from making sure that your styles are done correctly to creating 404 error pages. However, all of these things relate to what you need to do in order to get the doors open. Have you made a checklist of things that you need to do in order to KEEP the doors open? Here is a look at some of things that need to be done before you launch your membership site that will help your first few months run a lot smoother.

1. Content
To actually launch a membership site, technically you only need a day or two’s worth of content. However, if you plan on creating a successful membership site, you first 3 to 6 months will have to be all about promotion and generating buzz. That means that in order to be able to do this, you will need 3 to 6 months worth of content so that you will not end up going weeks at a time without updating your membership site or getting stuck creating content instead of promoting your membership site. The long term viability of your membership site is completely reliant on your ability to stay open through the first few months, which means content should be the least of your concern. Because you can create it ahead of time, you shouldn’t force yourself to worry about it later.

One of the biggest problems with creating a membership site out of a blog, especially using Wordpress, is SEO. Fortunately, the Magic Members plugin can easily enhance your membership sites SERP’s. The key is know which Magic Members features are the most useful for SEO purposes as well as how to use them effectively. One of the biggest SEO problems that membership sites have is that they simply don’t have very much free content that is being indexed by search engines. The Magic Members plugin allows you to create a partial content display. Essentially, you can make the first paragraph or more publicly viewable. This will multiply the amount of pages being indexed as well as boost the number of pages that can be utilized for back linking purposes. As an added bonus, by giving away a portion of the content for free, potential members can get a better idea of what you are offering. It is also an excellent way to profit from the Pay Per Post Access that the Magic Members plugin allows. (more…)

Magic Members Becomes First Wordpress Membership Plugin to Integrate CCBill

CCBill continues to be a popular solution for membership sites, however it has been near impossible to find a plugin to easily integrate CCBill. While there have been some membership site scripts that have attempted to integrate CCBill, however until Magic Members, there has not be a membership plugin that seamlessly integrates with Wordpress and CCBill.

CCBill has been around since 1998 and quickly became a popular international 3rd party payment processor. Currently, CCBill does not charge any setup fees or monthly maintenance fees. They only charge a transaction fee which based upon your transaction volume can range from 14.5% to 11.5%. These rates seem to be on par with industry averages. (more…)

Magic Members Can Help You Retain Members Longer

Monday, May 24th, 2010

When running a successful membership website, it is critical to retain members as long as possible.  One of the biggest mistakes that most membership website owners make is that they give their members everything at once.  Magic Members has a unique feature that solve the problem automatically.

Imagine this, you have built a great membership website that is loaded with fantastic content, however you notice that your members are not staying subscribed as long as they used to.  Do you know why?  There is a good chance that your members are getting their subscription, going to your membership site and then downloading everything that you have to offer and canceling their subscription.  This is becomes an even bigger problem if you offer a money back guarantee (which everyone should).  After they have downloaded everything, they not only cancel their subscription, but even request their money back.
